The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.”Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?” But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?” Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
EXODUS 17:1-4
I don’t know about all of you, but this semester has been a doozy for me in terms of health, classes, and faith. This semester reminds me a lot of the Israelites in the passage above wandering around in the desert for 40 years when it only should’ve taken a few weeks to get to the Promised land. Unfortunately, they were not ready for the Promised land. They didn’t have the faith in God that they needed yet. God was providing everything they needed, especially in the chapter before this. God made it basically rain carbs and told them not to save any bread for the next day, but they did anyway. The Israelites did not trust that God would provide for them the next day and the bread they saved went bad (dang, maggots). It may seem like this semester is taking 40 years to get done and I know it has been challenging for many, but we have to put our faith and trust in the Lord to get us through. God is leading us in exactly the right direction we need for growth even if it’s taking longer than we want. So even if this semester is getting you down remember, you only need a little faith, trust, and probably not pixie dust.
Challenge:
What can you do this week to put more trust in God?
