Week of March 3: Full Capacity

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself.

1 Corinthians 6:19

This verse always gets to me. You do not belong to yourself… We belong to God. Our bodies are the temples we were given to live in while we walk the Earth (or maybe Mars someday). In college, it is hard to take care of your health both mental and physical, but to be able to live for God you have to invest time in your health. Sleep, exercise, and healthy eating can be hard to come by when you have three exams in three days, you are going on a big spring break trip, or you are preparing for the dreaded finals week. I have learned from personal experience that the more effort you put into your health the more energy you have to live your life to serve others and the Lord. Last spring, when I was serving as a Nebraska FFA State Officer, I traveled basically non-stop for two months visiting chapters across the state of Nebraska. I knew that I HAD to stay healthy during this time and that I couldn’t eat the best being on the road so I took my vitamins, consistently got seven to nine hours of sleep, drank at least 64 ounces of water a day, washed my hands ALL THE TIME, and took time to meditate and journal at least every other day. The effort towards my health led to me having more energy, feeling happier, and my productivity skyrocketed. Now I am definitely not as intentional as I was last spring, but the days that I eat well and work out, the better I sleep and in turn, my next day is better. When we are fueling our bodies positively and staying healthy, we are better able to beacons of light for the Lord. It is truly amazing the things that we are capable of accomplishing when we are at full capacity physically and mentally.

Challenge:

Take one step closer to being at full capacity this week. Work out every day. Eat food that makes you feel full of energy. Get seven to nine hours of sleep. Whatever you decide to do, do it so you can better serve the Lord.
