Week of March 31: Song In My Soul

Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn— shout for joy before the LORD, the King. Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

Psalm 98: 1-7

Prayer and praise brings us closer to the Lord through challenging times as I wrote about two weeks and one of my favorite ways to praise the Lord is through music! I am a huge believer in that music brings people together and it’s why I include a song with every devotion! When a song comes on that you think you are the only person that knows and then someone else starts singing along and you go, “YOU KNOW THIS SONG TOO???” and there is an automatic connection! Maybe I am the only one that happens to, but there is something that I find so comforting in music and maybe that is because I was exposed to it starting from such an early age. I would dance around in the front of the church while my dad practiced before service, I would hear my mom sing hymns in her office as she prepared messages, sing as loud as I could in the back pew of the church, around a camp fire at church camp, or playing trombone for Christmas Eve service. I love the feeling I get when I am worshipping the Lord through music. The spirit moves, hearts open, and pain subsides even if it only for a little while. The power of music in our lives and in our relationship with Christ is outstanding. It is one of the reasons that I love the Book of Psalms so much is because it is entirely meant to be sung in praise to the Lord! I know that not everyone is a good singer or can play a harp, trumpet, or blast a ram’s horn, but you can still make a joyful noise to praise the Lord. It doesn’t have to be pretty, but you can find your own ways to praise the Lord through music.
