“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
At the beginning of the book of Joshua, the Israelites are getting ready to enter their homeland that was promised to their ancestors after 40 years wandering in the desert. In this verse, Moses’s aid is telling Joshua the message to not be afraid and that God will be with them as they cross the river. This has been one of my favorite verses since I was a seventh grader going through confirmation class. It has been a verse and a story that has constantly reminded to have courage even when I am scared and feeling weak. In college, we have so many opportunities in front of us that we have been anticipating, but it can seem so scary going into the unknown. Maybe it is a new leadership position, an intramural team we are joining late, a Bible study group with people we don’t know, joining a different club on campus, a study abroad all by yourself, or maybe a summer internship that takes you states away. It takes courage to start something new and dang it, it can definitely be scary. Don’t let fear keep you from trying new things and taking every opportunity that comes at you during college. Let your heart and mind be guided with courage that God will be with you no matter wherever you go.
Challenge:
What is something that you have been anticipating, but are very nervous for? Pray to God to give you courage and strength to take it on.
