Week of January 13: Faith in His Love

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.19 We love because he first loved us.

1 John 4: 7-12, 19

This is such a powerful and often a tough passage for me to read. It is so easy to think of love as the romantic relationships that I have had or how much I love my friends and family. But in this passage, we are being challenged to love everyone. “Let us love one another, for love comes from God” He gave up his son, the one he loved most, to show us how to love each other. We are able to love our significant others, our family, our friends, and the people of the world because God first loved us. It makes me entirely rethink the love that I can give to people on an everyday basis. If God loves us so much that he was able to sacrifice his son, how can I better love everyone around me? The love that God has for us is so immense and we have a chance to complete his love through our actions.

Challenge
